Edmonton activates poor air quality response

Due to poor air quality, the City of Edmonton says it has activated its extreme weather response.
It started Monday and is expected to last until Wednesday, July 22, at 9 a.m.
The response, which aims to keep vulnerable people safe during periods of high-risk conditions, could be extended if conditions persist during the week.
The poor air quality response is activated when the Air Quality Health Index is forecast to reach a score of seven or higher for at least two days in a row.
City facilities like libraries will be open to provide a space for people to escape from the smoky conditions.
Officials also advise that you check on older family members, friends and neighbours.
As of 3 p.m. on Monday, Edmonton was sitting at a 10+ on the air quality index. Monday night is expected to drop to nine, before dropping to a seven on Tuesday.
