Man killed after being shot by police in Leduc

The RCMP says a 63-year-old man is dead after being shot by a police officer in Leduc.

Around 11:23 p.m. on June 19, Mounties responded to a report of a man with a gun outside the Leduc Detachment.

RCMP, along with members of the Edmonton Police Service, responded to the scene and were able to make contact with the man.

Officers reportedly tried to de-escalate the situation, but a confrontation occurred, which resulted in at least one EPS officer firing their gun.

The man was hit by the shot by police and died from his injuries.

Police were able to find and seize a gun following the shooting.

Alberta’s police watchdog — the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) — has been notified of the shooting and has begun an investigation.
