Edmontonians upset with fans harassing McDavid

Fans spoke out about the video circulating online, calling it disrespectful, embarrassing and shameful. Many of them saying professional athletes are like everyone else and need personal space.

The video has gotten around a million views since being posted online. It shows three Oilers fans surrounding the Oilers star and his fiance while they were outside their car after shopping.

Multiple times in the video you can see the fans touching and slapping McDavid’s back and getting a little too close to his car.

The Edmonton Oilers are set for their first Stanley Cup finals in 18 years, and Connor McDavid has played a massive role in the team’s success.

But after a video has circulated online of fans bugging the superstar on his personal time, some Edmontonians say it’s harassment.

“I felt bad for him,” said one Edmontonian. “Even though its McDavid, you gotta treat him like anybody else on the street, with respect.”

Another saying, “Even though he’s famous he doesn’t need to be touched all the time. Just because he’s the big Oilers guy. I don’t know. I don’t think it was very respectful of them.”

Oilers alumni Georges Laraque even took to social media offering his services as the captain’s personal bodyguard. Other fans, call it embarrassing, harassing, and shameful.

“I think that we can all be reminded these are people that do have jobs and we’re rooting for them,” said one fan.

With Game 1 set for Saturday, fans say the Oilers could use fewer distractions and focus on the task at hand, bringing the Stanley Cup back to Edmonton.

“I think he’ll be fine. He’s probably unfazed by it. He won’t think twice about it.”
