It wasn’t on home ice at Rogers Place, but the Oilers have beaten the Vancouver Canucks in 7 games. Now it’s on to Texas to face off against the Dallas Stars.
While Oilers fans partied into the night celebrating Monday’s win, Tuesday afternoon the province announced a $340,000 investment into the same agency and home where Oilers legend Joey Moss lived.

This afternoon, I was joined by Emily Ruttan, Chief Executive Officer of Winnifred Stewart, live from Joey's Home, to announce funding to support this historic home for people with disabilities. pic.twitter.com/Y15J1yioAv
Moss’ nephew was there for the announcement.
“Joey was just a hard-working person. He woke up every day, gave love and worked hard,” explained Adam Walker, Joey Moss’s nephew.
Walker knew Moss would have been celebrating last night’s win.
“It just reminds me how Joey would be right in there high-fiving the guys and cheering louder than anybody else and singing O Canada.”
As Oilers head to the Conference Final in Texas, tickets for games in Dallas are definitely cheaper than in Edmonton. The cheapest last-minute flight to get to Dallas by Thursday, however, is going to cost about $900 from what CityNews was able to find.
It’s not a playoff series without a bet between politicians, but this time the stakes have been raised with literal steaks.
Alberta’s Premier Danielle Smith made a bet with Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott, where the loser has to eat a steak from the winner’s region.
The Edmonton Oilers are facing off against the Dallas Stars soon! It seems only fitting that I challenge my counterpart Governor @GregAbbott_TX to a bet.

When the Oilers beat the Stars, you must eat the world’s best steak, an Alberta rib steak, on video and comment on just how… pic.twitter.com/QCA9fwdBOv
While that seems like a bet where the loser still kind of wins, CityNews called the Governor’s office in Texas Tuesday to say ‘howdy’ from the province that wishes we were them, and to get a response to the premier’s bet.
The Governor’s office however did not respond, or confirm if they knew what an Alberta is.
