Edmonton police and Alberta RCMP say two people are facing a combined 12 charges in connection to a pair of stolen Ferrari sportscars.
The RCMP’s Auto Theft North Unit began an investigation into two fraudulently registered Ferraris in early September.
During the investigation, Mounties learned that on Sept. 12, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) conducted a traffic stop near Jasper Avenue and 115 Street and seized one of the Ferraris that was being investigated.
Investigators also learned that both the cars had been reported as stolen in Ontario months earlier, and had been given new fraudulent Vehicle Identification Numbers before being re-registered in Alberta.
On Sept. 15, the Auto Theft North Unit, ALERT, and the Beaumont RCMP, executed a search warrant at a home in the Royal Oak Subdivision of Leduc County.
During the search, RCMP seized another Ferrari, which was also confirmed to be stolen from Ontario, and confirmed to have been given a fraudulent Vehicle Identification Number before being re-registered in Alberta.
Since the vehicle seizures, the RCMP has charged a 31-year-old from Edmonton with four counts of possession of property obtained by a crime, illegal possession of government documents, possession of a weapon, failing to comply with a release order, and fraudulent concealment.
Additionally, a 35-year-old from Edmonton was also charged with two counts of fraudulent concealment and two counts of uttering a forged document.
Both are set to appear in court on Sept. 28, in Leduc.
The RCMP says both Ferraris — a 2017 Ferrari 488 and a 2023 Ferrari F8 Tributo — are worth nearly $1 million.
