Motorcyclist suffers life-threatening injuries in high-speed collision in Mill Woods: police

By News Staff

Police say a motorcyclist suffered serious, life-threatening injuries in a collision with an SUV Friday night in southeast Edmonton.

The Edmonton Police Service believes speed is a major factor in the collision that took place around 9 p.m. in the Mill Woods neighbourhood.

Police allege a 39-year-old man was riding a motorcycle going north on 50 Street approaching 38 Avenue “at a high rate of speed.”

At the same time, a 28-year-old woman in a Toyota RAV4 was driving south on 50 Street, making a left turn onto 38 Avenue.

“The motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the RAV4 with enough force to spin the vehicle 180 degrees,” EPS said in a news release.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital by paramedics. The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital for “precautionary reasons,” police say.

Investigators are asking the public for any dash camera footage from the area – between 34 Avenue and 38 Avenue on 50 Street – Friday before 9 p.m.
