Edmonton has seen an uptick in violent events over the past few days, with police responding to a shooting and multiple stabbings throughout the city.
“Our members were kept extremely busy over the last several days, responding to various life-threatening incidents called into 911 across the city,” says Deputy Chief Darren Derko of the EPS Community Policing Bureau.
“It’s been a traumatic weekend for the victims of these crimes, their families and friends, as well as the responding officers and investigators subsequently involved.”
Over the weekend, EPS responded to a pair of calls near the Belvedere Transit Centre and LRT Station.
Just after midnight on Saturday, officers say they responded to a stabbing and weapons complaint at the transit centre. The report indicated a man was injured in the terminal and needed medical assistance.
When officers arrived, they found the man, who was treated at the scene before being taken to a hospital by paramedics.
EPS says another man, believed to be the suspect in the stabbing, was located nearby and taken into custody.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, officers responded to a weapons complaint at the LRT Station around 9:15 p.m.
When police arrived, they found a man dead with what appeared to be suspicious injuries.

EPS has since charged a 27-year-old man with various charges, including second-degree murder.
Roughly an hour later, officers in downtown Edmonton responded to an assault with a weapon involving an 89-year-old male.
According to Peace Officers who witnessed the assault, the man was taking some photos near 97 Street and Jasper Avenue when he was approached by another man, who pushed him to the ground.
The suspect then reportedly climbed on top of the senior, at which point the Peace Officers jumped in and arrested the suspect.
Afterwards, the senior was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries while police charged the suspect.
In another incident at around 2 a.m. on Monday, officers in downtown Edmonton responded to an aggravated assault call at an ETS bus shelter in front of a hotel on Jasper Avenue and 100 Street.
Reports indicated a man and a woman were “ingesting illicit drugs” when two other men joined them in the shelter.
Witnesses tell police not long after that one of the men staggered out of the shelter and fell to the ground with what appeared to be life-threatening stab wounds.
Police say the man was taken to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Meanwhile, roughly an hour later, officers responded to a weapons complaint on Woodbend WN after witnesses reported a shooting.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police say the man was sitting in his vehicle in a parking lot before he was joined by another man who is believed to be the suspect.
Two other men joined a short time later, and the trio then attempted to rob the victim.
Officers believe the man had no money, so they allege the trio demanded his keys instead and drove the victim to a discreet west-end location.
The man escaped the vehicle, at which point, one of the three shot him. He suffered a serious, non-life-threatening injury.
Investigators say the suspects fled the scene before abandoning the vehicle, which police say was later found on fire in southeast Edmonton.
Lastly, in another incident, EPS says around 6 a.m., officers responded to a report of an injured man outside a home near 84 Street and 179 Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found a 25-year-old man with serious injuries. He was later declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
Anyone with any information regarding any of the crimes is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
