Alberta to increase school bus eligibility with new funding

The Alberta government is aiming to help more students take the school bus.
New funding announced Tuesday, will make 80-thousand new students eligible for transportation – a 30 per cent increase over current numbers.
The money will also help eliminate fees for nearly 50-thousand students.
Additionally, distance requirements are being reduced while the number of bus routes are being increased.
This means 350 new bus drivers will be hired to address the expanded capacity.
Some of the funding will also be geared toward private schools.
