City cancels prescribed burn at Edmonton’s Jan Reimer Park

Edmonton’s Jan Reimer Park will not be closed Monday after all.
A prescribed burn was scheduled for the southwest Edmonton park, but it was cancelled due to “unfavourable weather conditions” – likely medium to high winds.
Nearby trails and the Terwillegar Park Footbridge will also remain open as a result.
A new date for the prescribed burn has not yet been chosen.
“Prescribed burns proceed only if weather conditions allow for effective fire control and smoke management,” the City of Edmonton said in a news release.
Winds between 20-40 km/h were expected for Edmonton on Monday morning.
The burn is to spread across 19 hectares of grassland to aid in wildfire prevention.
