Edmonton police charge man in connection to 118 Ave corridor arsons

Edmonton police arrested and charged the ‘prime suspect’ connected to a rash of arsons in the Alberta Avenue neighbourhood.

Edmonton police have charged 38-year-old Darcy Willier in connection to arsons that took place along the 118 Avenue corridor starting in 2021.

Willier is facing seven counts of arson and two counts of arson with disregard for human life.

Over the past few months, EPS brought in additional resources to try and combat the number of arsons that have been popping up around the city.

Through the investigation, EPS believe 44 separate arson incidents could also be related.

“These arsons caused a great deal of concern and traumatized many in the community,” says Acting Staff Sergeant David Graham. “The investigation has proven to be very complex and lengthy, involving multiple people of interest connected to one another through properties in the Alberta Avenue area. We appreciate the community’s patience while we took the time necessary to build a robust investigation leading to the arrest of the prime suspect in this large file.”

The investigation is still ongoing and police say Willier might face more charges.
