Grade 8 students at Edmonton school damaged by storm to start year elsewhere

Edmonton’s summer storms have delayed when some junior high students can return to their school.
Edmonton Public Schools announced about 170 Grade 8 students at Killarney School will start the year at a different school.
Students will bus from the north side, over the river, to Hardisty School in the southeast.
The roof of Killarney School was damaged by a July 15 storm.

“The whole Grade 8 cohort, it was important for us to keep kids together, but those are the kids that we’re going to move over to Hardisty,” said Chris Wright, the acting chief infrastructure and technology officer at EPSB.
The extent of the damage, and the cost, remains undetermined.
The two-storey section of the school and some of its classrooms will not be available for September.
But the school division hopes to have kids back by the winter break.
