Man charged with harassing a cougar near Lake Louise

LAKE LOUISE (660 NEWS) – A man from Saskatchewan has been charged with a rare offence for allegedly harassing a cougar, using a slingshot.

Parks Canada said the attack was witnessed by a number of people on May 31 near Lake Louise.

The big cat was trapped between the wildlife fence next to the Trans-Canada Highway when the man reportedly shot at him with his slingshot.

Conservation officers used a vehicle description and photos to track the suspect. He was later arrested and charged with disturbing wildlife in a national park and possession of a firearm.

Under the Parks Canada Act a slingshot is considered a firearm.
