EHS rebranding halted as province orders restoration of old name, logo

The rebranding of paramedics in Alberta has been halted and ordered by the province to return to the previous name and logo.
The decision, announced by Alberta’s Minister of Hospital and Surgical Health Services Adriana LaGrange, reverses a mid‑May plan to rename Emergency Health Services (EHS) as ALTA Paramedic Health.
“I’ve heard questions from Albertans and front-line workers about the recent Emergency Health Services rebranding, and I share their concerns,” said LaGrange in a statement posted to social media.
She says the rebranding will not proceed until proper consultation occurs.
LaGrange emphasized that no operational funding was used for the rebranding work and that nothing beyond the initial launch was altered, meaning no uniforms, ambulances, or equipment were changed.
At the time of the initial announcement, the government said the move signalled modernization, accountability, and high‑quality care.
The Health Sciences Association of Alberta, the union representing paramedics, had sharply criticized the rebrand, saying it showed “how disconnected the leadership is from frontline health‑care workers’ issues and needs.”
The union argued that workforce shortages and ambulance availability should take priority over new names, uniforms, or decals.
LaGrange says EHS will share details about future public engagement once those plans are ready.
