First coronavirus-death reported in Quebec

QUEBEC (NEWS 1130) – The first death from COVID-19 has been reported in Quebec, along with 20 new reported cases of the virus.
The death, an elderly man, is the ninth in Canada related to COVID-19, including seven in B.C. and one in Ontario.
Ontario health officials confirmed that province’s first death from COVID-19 on Tuesday, a 77-year-old man in the Muskoka region was a close contact of another positive case.
Later Tuesday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry declared a public health emergency in B.C. along with three more deaths due to COVID-19.
Two of the three are linked to the Lynn Valley Care Centre in North Vancouver, where six of province’s deaths have stemmed from.
The third B.C. death on Tuesday was a man in his 80s from the Fraser Health region.
Quebec declared a health emergency on March 13.
Ontario confirmed 23 new cases of novel coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the total for that province up to 212.
Meanwhile, Manitoba’s chief public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin said Wednesday there are no new cases of COVID-19 after the number in the province nearly doubled the day before.
There are 15 cases of the novel coronavirus in Manitoba, including eight that have been confirmed in the national lab.
The reported number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Canada is now more than 600.
