How many Albertans are using winter tires?

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – It seems many Albertans are using winter tires.

A new study by the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada found 63 per cent of Alberta drivers now use winter tires, up from 45 per cent five years ago.

However, the 2019 number is down seven per cent from last year when 70 per cent of drivers said they used winter tires.

Nationally, 75 per cent of Canadians have those tires with the Maritimes scoring the highest at 91 per cent. Quebec is at 100 per cent as winter tires have been required by law since 2008.

Of those who don’t use winter tires, 55 per cent believe all-season tires are good enough. Other reasons cited include cost and that people aren’t driving as much in the winter months.

Nearly 1,600 drivers took part in the online survey.
