Notley responds to sexual misconduct allegations in the legislature

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – NDP leader Rachel Notley says her party is not releasing further details of sexual misconduct within its ranks to protect the victims.

The allegations were leaked to the media last fall, but it was never revealed who committed the wrongdoings, or what the offenders did.

“That’s what this is all about,” Notley said. “The complainants asked for their privacy to be protected and that would not happen if bits and pieces of the complaints started to come out.”

Notley said the party had an independent investigator look at the cases, and it’s following the recommendations.

The Alberta Party said it would make changes to legislative procedures if it were elected to have all complaints made against MLAs be investigated by the office of the Legislative Assembly which is a more neutral party than the house speaker who currently looks into these matters.
