Icefields trail in Jasper gets the boot

JASPER (660 NEWS) — The federal government is cancelling plans for a new biking and hiking trail in Jasper National Park.
Parks Canada said that after initial consultations with stakeholders, Indigenous partners and members of the public, it will not go ahead with the proposed Icefields Trail project.
Among the feedback received were concerns over the environmental impact as well as the high cost of the project.

Nearly $66 million was set aside for the trail in 2016 and will reallocate the funds to other projects in the near future.
