Alberta RCMP officer hurt during traffic stop

PENHOLD (660 NEWS) – A Red Deer man has been charged after RCMP say an officer was assaulted during a traffic stop late Sunday night.
Innisfail RCMP noticed a vehicle idling outside the Penholder Tavern in the town of Penhold at 11:00 pm. Police say they conducted a traffic stop and found the license plate on the vehicle was in fact registered to a different one.
When police approached the man in the vehicle, he became agitated, yelling at police to shut their lights off and rolled his windows up and locked his doors.
Police continued to interact with the driver who eventually reversed his vehicle into the front of a police vehicle that was parked behind him, causing damage. RCMP attempted to arrest the man, and an altercation took place resulting in a police officer being dragged approximately 15 feet. That officer sustained minor injuries, and the vehicle fled the scene.
Red Deer City RCMP found the vehicle in Red Deer and with the help of Innisfail RCMP, found the man and arrested him without further incident.
Chasetin Morin, 24, of Red Deer has been charged with numerous offences including assaulting an officer with a weapon, resisting arrest and failing to stop for police.
Morin is expected to appear in Red Deer court on Tuesday.
