Man shot by police inside south Edmonton home: ASIRT

An Edmonton police officer fatally shot a man who may have been carrying weapons inside a home in the Cavanagh neighbourhood last month, according to the province’s police watchdog.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) says the Edmonton Police Service officer fired their service weapon during the June 27 confrontation, killing the man.
The watchdog says police were responding to multiple reports of crashes involving a man driving a black Jeep in south Edmonton, including a collision with an Edmonton Fire Rescue Services truck shortly before midnight.
Witnesses told police the man had a weapon.
Police say officers later found the damaged vehicle in the open garage of a home in Cavanagh.
Officers entered the home with a warrant, ASIRT says, and were “immediately met by a man near the doorway who was advancing quickly towards them and appeared to be carrying weapons.”
That’s when the shooting happened, according to ASIRT.
