Stolen Alberta peacocks Pete and Hilda found, returned to their owners

The peacock and peahen that were in a pickup truck when it was stolen from Stony Plain, Alta., over the weekend have been found and returned to their owners.

Alberta RCMP say while the stolen pickup truck remains outstanding, Pete and Hilda were found safe.

Two members of the public located the birds in their crate on Highway 16, near Duffield, on Sunday – the day the pickup was stolen. Police say they cared for the birds until they learned where they came from, at which point they contacted RCMP.

“The Parkland RCMP and Smoky Lake RCMP would like to extend thanks to the members of the public who rescued and returned the birds to their rightful owner. This is a great example of the police and public working together to achieve a positive outcome for everyone involved,” Mounties said in a news release.

Authorities are still looking for the white 2005 Ford F-350 with British Columbia licence plate SY7996.
