Fire guts north Edmonton home, neighbours say 4th time in a month

A widely considered safe street in north Edmonton is now in doubt. Neighbours say one home has had 4 separate fires in January. James Dunn has more on what they are sharing and the latest blaze.

A north Edmonton home is now fully boarded up in the Montrose neighbourhood after a fire Friday morning. Neighbours CityNews spoke to say this was not the first time firefighters have been to that home this month.

Fire crews arrived to an active fire at a single residential home just after 8.30 a.m. near 65th street and 122nd avenue. No injuries were reported, and the fire was declared under control at 10:07 a.m.

Neighbours say firefighters have been to the house four times in January. They say all areas of the house have been on fire at some point this month, including the garage and the R-V parked behind it.

Chayse Stephens and his wife were taking their kids to the bus stop for school that is located just round the corner of the gutted house, just before the fire. Stephens says these incidents make them feel concerned for their family’s safety and wonder if their kids bus stop can be changed.

EFRS told CityNews that they do not provide history of fires of a specific address, but say the fire on Friday is under investigation.
