An Edmonton man is accused of stealing a pickup truck in Wetaskiwin and striking the owner with it as he fled the scene last month.
Wetaskiwin RCMP say it happened May 22 when the victim started his vehicle and stepped out. That’s when a suspect entered the pickup and started driving away, police say.
Video of what appears to be the incident in question, shared on social media, shows the truck striking the victim as it drives off. The thief stops briefly, then turns the corner and continues driving away.
Police say investigators identified a suspect following an investigation.
The following day, Leduc RCMP were responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle, and officers located and arrested the suspect in what they allege was a different stolen vehicle.
The pickup truck stolen from Wetaskiwin was recovered by Parkland RCMP on May 26.
Edmonton’s Anthony Whitford, 32, is facing multiple charges including theft of truck, assault with a weapon, failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, and obstructing a peace officer.
None of the allegations have been tested in court.
