1 dead after head-on collision north of Edmonton

One person is dead after a head-on collision involving a semi truck and an SUV on Monday night, according to police.

Slave Lake RCMP say a Chevrolet Suburban towing a dual axel flat deck trailer travelling on Highway 2 at Township 710 A entered the eastbound oncoming lane of traffic at around 9:20 p.m.

While driving in the oncoming lane, a head-on collision occurred with a semi truck hauling a loaded trailer.

The driver and only occupant of the Chevrolet was declared dead at the scene. Police did not disclose the condition of the semi truck driver.

The crash scene, which is about 210 kilometres north of Edmonton, was shut down for several hours while the investigation was carried out.
