Edmonton issues extreme weather response due to smoke

The City of Edmonton has issued an extreme weather response due to smoke within the city.

The response has been activated — effective immediately — to ensure the health and safety of all Edmontonians and is expected to last until 9 a.m. on July 22,

The City says it’s seeing poor air conditions, and the Air Quality Index is expected to be 7 or higher over the next two days.

The response is different from the already existing extreme weather response the City issued Monday and extended Friday, which is for heat.

Officials say recreation centres and pools will be open and distributing N95 masks.

Edmontonians are encouraged to reduce their exposure to smoke, and keep all windows and doors closed as much as possible.

The activation started on Monday, July 15 at 9 a.m. and is set to end on Friday, July 26.
