Edmonton police have released video of two suspects believed to be connected to the fatal daylight shooting of a father and his young son outside a south Edmonton fast-food restaurant last week.
Harpreet Uppal, a 41-year-old man with drug and gang connections, and his 11-year-old son Gavin were killed Thursday while parked outside an A&W at Ellerslie Road and 50th Street.
On Sunday afternoon, the Edmonton Police Service released roughly 30 seconds of surveillance video purported to show two suspects leaving what police say is a black BMW SUV.
The passenger can be seen exiting the vehicle first, then the driver. Both run out of the video’s frame, then can be seen running back. The vehicle then drives away.

Police also released a still image showing the suspect vehicle.
A 2012 black BMW X6 was later found burned at 34 Street and Township Road 510 –north of Beaumont. Police are still working to determine if it’s the same vehicle.
“We are hopeful that releasing this photo and video clip will help someone recall seeing the vehicle and/or suspects before or after the shooting,” Staff Sgt. Rob Bilawey said in an EPS news release.

“Sometimes a seemingly insignificant detail can be immensely helpful to our investigation, and we encourage anyone with information they believe may be related to this shooting to call us.”
Uppal was known to Edmonton police and was previously targeted in a 2021 restaurant shooting. His son was not caught in the line of fire but deliberately killed, police have said.
A second boy – a friend of Gavin’s – was also in the car at the time of the shooting and was not physically harmed. Police say he fled the vehicle after the shooting.
Autopsies for Uppal and his son have been scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
