Edmonton-South candidate Tunde Obasan latest UCP resignation

The UCP candidate for Edmonton-South is withdrawing from the race due to personal reasons.

Tunde Obasan wrote on Facebook Saturday afternoon that he has tendered his resignation as the candidate for Edmonton-South.

Obasan did not specify what the personal reasons were.

“Thank you to all my supporters who have helped knock doors and move my campaign forward,” he wrote.

“I trust the Party and the local Constituency Association will work together to find a strong candidate for the upcoming election.”

Obasan is the latest UCP candidate to resign from the election race.

Torry Tanner in Lethbridge West resigned after a video surfaced of her claiming children are being exposed to pornography in schools, and that teachers were helping students change their gender identity with no parental knowledge.

The week before, two high-profile candidates announced they would not run in the May election: Finance Minister Travis Toews and Environment Minister Sonya Savage.

The Alberta NDP candidate in Edmonton-South called Obasan’s resignation – following those other withdrawals – “yet more chaos from the UCP.”

“It follows another UCP resignation in Lethbridge-West, and the parachuting of Rajan Sawhney into Calgary-North West after she bailed out of a competitive nomination race in the riding she already represents,” Rhiannon Hoyle wrote in a statement.

“I’m focused on offering the people of Edmonton-South a stable, competent and caring government led by Rachel Notley.”
