Severed pig’s head left on Pride crosswalk outside Parkland County school

RCMP are investigating a possible hate crime after a severed pig’s head was left on a Pride crosswalk outside a school in Parkland County.

RCMP say they believe this wasn’t a prank but rather a “highly intolerant and provocative act” as the Graminia School has a Gay-Straight Alliance.

“Its placement in the center of the crosswalk appears to have been intentional and designed to disturb students, staff and parents,” RCMP said in a statement.

“An unsophisticated person might think this was a prank. An objective viewer would see it as highly intolerant and provocative,” says Staff Sergeant Ian Gillan of Parkland RCMP.

Police believe the pig’s head may have been left between the evening of Oct. 15 to the late morning of Oct. 16.

The superintendent for the school saying in a release Wednesday, “We were shocked and saddened after being informed of what appears to be a despicable act and direct display of aggression towards the LGBTQ2S+ community.

“Any attack towards a minority, and especially towards children, is to be condemned and we hope whomever is responsible for this is exposed and brought to justice. As an act like this is traumatic in nature, necessary support is in place for staff and students at the school who may feel targeted by this discovery,” they added.

They’re asking witnesses to come forward, anyone who might have had a pig stolen or mutilated, or a butcher or meat packer who might have sold a pig’s head.
