Reopening of Telus World of Science Edmonton delayed until early 2027

The Telus World of Science Edmonton, which was temporarily closed last month due to flooding, will reopen later than expected.

The popular science science was expected to resume operations in mid-November, but the reopening has now been pushed back to early 2027.

An exact reopening date will be known as restoration advances, the centre explained in a news release. Repairs will not be completed before December.

“Our focus remains on reopening safely and bringing our people and community back together,” said Constance Scarlett, the centre’s president and CEO.

The Telus World of Science Edmonton closed on July 10 following flooding caused by a massive thunderstorm. More flooding during subsequent storms that month delayed damage assessments, recovery work, and the start of major restoration work.

Affected areas included the flooring, which needed to be removed and replaced, as well as cabinets and drywall.

Major restoration work can now begin, the Telus World of Science Edmonton announced Tuesday, following confirmation from the City of Edmonton.

“While it’s later than our initial estimate, confirmation that major repair and restoration work can now begin is an important milestone,” said Scarlett. “We now have a clearer path forward, and our team is focused on completing this work carefully, safely, and responsibly so we can welcome our community back to the Science Centre.”
