Woman, 21, killed after vehicle rolls off road in Strathcona County

Police say a 21-year-old woman lost her life after the vehicle she was in rolled off the road in Strathcona County on Thursday morning.

Strathcona County RCMP say it happened near Range Road 214 and Township Road 524 after midnight.

Investigators believe the driver of the SUV she was a passenger in lost control on the gravel road. The vehicle rolled into a swampy ditch nearby, landing upright.

Three people managed to leave the vehicle on their own: the driver and a passenger – both 21-year-old women – and a boy whose age police did not reveal.

They “advised emergency crews a fourth person was unaccounted for,” police said in a news release.

Crews with Strathcona County Fire lifted the vehicle from the water and found the woman underneath with life-threatening injuries. She was taken to hospital, where she died.
