Police are turning to the public for help in their investigation of a hit-and-run that injured a 15-year-old cyclist in southwest Edmonton on Monday afternoon.
It happened at the intersection of Desrochers Boulevard and Desrochers Drive around 12:30 p.m.
The Edmonton Police Service says the teen was crossing Desrochers Drive using a marked crosswalk when a vehicle going fast “failed to stop for the stop sign and struck the cyclist.”
The vehicle – described as a light silver four-door sedan, possibly an older Volkswagen – continued south on Desrochers Drive, then turned west on 41 Avenue. The suspect vehicle could have front-end damage, police say.
“The complete disregard shown by the driver of this vehicle after striking this child is appalling,” said Staff Sgt. David Crisp. “I am hoping that someone can contact police with information about this incident so we can hold the driver of this vehicle accountable.”
The boy was transported to hospital by paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries.
