Canada looks to build up to 10 new nuclear reactors by 2040

The federal government is looking to build up to 10 new nuclear reactors over the next 15 years, with at least one of them outside of Ontario.
Energy Minister Tim Hodgson is today announcing a new federal nuclear strategy which officials say could cost more than $100 billion.
The strategy does not say how Canada would fund the strategy, which comes as the government works to more than double the amount of electricity produced by 2050.
The plan also looks to expand Candu reactor sales to new countries make Canada a key player in enriched uranium exports as Western countries turn away from Russia.
The document says Prime Minister Mark Carney was not shown the strategy and had no role in developing it due to the ethics screen he has in place.
Brookfield co-owns a reactor Candu competes with and Carney had options and deferred shares in both the Brookfield Corporation and Brookfield Asset Management that were put into a blind trust after he became prime minister.
