The portable toilets at Terwillegar Park are back.
The porta-potties at the southwest Edmonton park were destroyed six times by fire last year – in January, February, June, July, August and September.
The bathrooms were reinstated last month.
“Daily monitoring and regular ranger patrols are in place due to ongoing vandalism concerns,” Ward pihêsiwin councillor Mike Elliott wrote on Facebook Tuesday. “If arson incidents continue, units may need to be removed until a permanent solution is found.”
Coun. Elliott says the City of Edmonton is looking into vandal-resistant permanent washroom options but adds “funding remains a challenge.”
In early September, burn marks on the ground and a charred welcome sign were all that remained of the vandalized toilets, leaving parkgoers frustrated and disappointed.
