Suspect charged in fall 2025 arsons at under-construction homes in central Edmonton

Police have charged a suspect in connection with a string of arsons targeting under-construction homes in central Edmonton last fall.

At the time the Edmonton Police Service was investigating six fires at infill homes believed to be deliberately set between Oct. 18 and Nov. 2, 2025.

The properties set ablaze – mostly multiplexes – were in the King Edward Park, Strathcona, Belgravia and Glenora neighbourhoods. There were no injuries.

Now six months later, police have arrested a 40-year-old man they allege is responsible for five of those fires. They say their investigation was extensive and involved detailed forensic analysis and the review of evidence across multiple crimes scenes over several months.

Edmonton police allege the accused is also responsible for related property offences linked to the affected sites.

On Nov. 13, 2025, suspect Peter Jones, who was on parole at the time, was arrested for a parole violation and he remained in custody. Last Wednesday, he was charged with 27 criminal offences, including five counts of arson with disregard for human life. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.

The six fires from last year previously deemed by Edmonton police to have been deliberately set were:

  • Oct. 18: King Edward Park, 80 Avenue and 81 Street
  • Oct. 21: Strathcona, 90 Avenue and 98 Street
  • Oct. 26: Belgravia, 116 Street and 77 Avenue
  • Oct. 29: Belgravia, 118A Street and 74 Avenue
  • Nov. 2: Glenora, 102 Avenue and 133 Street
  • Nov. 2: Belgravia, 71A Avenue and Saskatchewan Drive

Edmonton police told CityNews Wednesday that Jones is allegedly behind the arson in Strathcona and the three in Belgravia.
