The Edmonton Oilers will be without Zach Hyman for their final road trip of the season.
Hyman missed Saturday’s loss to the Vegas Golden Knights with an undisclosed injury.
After the game, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch announced that the forward will not travel with the team on its upcoming three-game road trip.
Knoblauch added that Hyman could return for the Oilers’ second-last game of the season in Edmonton against the Colorado Avalanche, and at worst, will return for their regular-season finale against the Vancouver Canucks on April 16.
Hyman, 33, has 31 goals and 20 assists in 57 games for Edmonton this season.
Despite their loss to Vegas on Saturday, the Oilers remain tied with the Anaheim Ducks atop the Pacific Division with 87 points.
The third-place Golden Knights are now just one point back of both teams thanks to Saturday’s victory.
Oilers coach Knoblauch ‘not ruling out’ Draisaitl for Game 1 of playoffs
With the playoffs fast approaching, the status of Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl still remains an open question.
Speaking to reporters Monday, Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said that he was “not ruling out” the return of the German forward for Game 1 of the playoffs.
“There’s a period of time that we anticipated him returning and, as we said, it’s going to be right around the end of the regular season, the start of the playoffs, and if he gets into that first game, that’s great, but he has not been on the ice yet,” Knoblauch said. “We anticipate he will be on the ice sometime this week, we’ll have an indication of how that’s going to go, but it’ll probably be sometime in that first round.”
Knoblauch added that Draisaitl will be back on the ice practising this week, but is unlikely to get into any actual games.
“Leon is going to be on the ice this week, and I don’t anticipate him playing any games in the regular season,” the Oilers coach said. “And then playoffs, sometime in that first round if things go well.”
Draisaitl has been out since he was forced to leave a March 15 game with a lower-body injury.
The 30-year-old had put up 35 goals and 97 points in 65 games played before being forced out of the lineup.
