A big blast of winter has come back to Alberta.
A snowfall alert is in effect for a large portion of central Alberta, including Yellowhead County, as well as southern Alberta.
About 15-20 centimetres of snow is being forecast for Edson, Whitecourt, Drayton Valley and beyond.
The weather authority says blowing snow could cause poor visibility on the roads Thursday morning.
“Travel will likely be challenging,” Environment Canada wrote in its weather alert. “Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will likely be reduced at times.”
RCMP in Sylvan Lake issued a warning around 8:30 a.m. about an increase in collisions caused by poor road conditions.
“Winter weather is creating icy patches and at times limiting visibility,” Mounties wrote in a brief news release.
With the snow comes a new blast of cold weather.
Edmonton activated its extreme weather response Thursday morning to help support the vulnerable population. It’s expected to last until Monday at 9 a.m.
