Edmonton police are investigating seven residential break and enters in the Southwest ravine area since January.
The Edmonton Police Service says the break-ins happened in the earlier evening hours at homes near the Whitemud and Blackmud Creek ravines.
Authorities believe the homes were targeted at random. They say the suspects almost exclusively entered when the occupants were not home.
“The suspects typically gain access to the homes by smashing the glass in a rear window or rear door,” EPS said in a news release. “Once inside, they head straight to the primary suite to locate jewelry and high-end clothing, then quickly flee to a newer model vehicle waiting outside.”
Police say surveillance video captured two suspect vehicles: a silver GMC Terrain (believed to be a 2024-2026 model), and a Ford Escape, possibly ST edition (believed to be a 2023-2026 model).

Edmonton homeowners are being recommended to leave lights on when leaving home; not posting about travel plans on social media; have someone bring in mail or shovel snow while you’re away on vacation; or invest in a home security system.
