‘Complete mayhem’: 16-year-old girl dead after Sunday morning shooting in northeast Edmonton

Edmonton police say a 16-year-old girl is dead after being found seriously injured Sunday morning.
The Edmonton Police Service says officers responded to reports of a shooting around 6:50 a.m. near 139 Avenue and 32 Street.
When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from serious injuries. Officers provided first aid, but she was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
The homicide unit has taken over the investigation and is treating the incident as suspicious. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
Police have not identified the girl or the circumstances of the shooting.
Residents were shaken by the news, telling CityNews they felt their safety would be at risk if they spoke on camera.
“When I woke up, I heard screams,” a neighbour recounted.
“It was just complete mayhem, like everywhere there was cops.”
One neighbour says his younger sister has been struggling to sleep since learning of the death.
“She was telling me she couldn’t sleep,” he said. “She said she’s scared for her safety. I said, ‘If you can’t sleep, then I can’t sleep.'”
