What began as a house fire in St. Albert has now turned into a homicide investigation.
Emergency crews were called to a home on Keystone Crescent around 12:18 p.m. on Thursday after reports of a residential fire. St. Albert Fire Services was able to put out the flames without major damage to the structure.
Officers with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police say a deceased person was found in the home. Investigators believe the circumstances surrounding the death are suspicious.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has now taken carriage of the case, working alongside local St. Albert RCMP as they piece together what happened.
The body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. An autopsy is expected to determine the person’s identity and cause of death.
Police say it is still early in the investigation, but they believe the incident was targeted and there is no ongoing risk to the public.

Mounties are asking anyone with information to contact St. Albert RCMP. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
The investigation remains ongoing.
