“Teresa was a very special person. She is a very strong person.” These are some of the words from Jesslyn Tremblay, the cousin of 39-year-old Teresa Katcheech, who was killed in this home at Boyle Street neighbourhood. Katcheech was described by their cousin as a loving mother and cousin.
“She’s a very selfless mother, very selfless, very protective of her children. You know, although she wasn’t around very much, when she was around, she definitely made sure to instill certain morals into her children, and you know, encouraging them to do good,” said Tremblay.

On February 9, her body was discovered by the Edmonton firefighters after putting out a house fire. Learning that the body was her cousin, Tremblay was devastated and described it as unreal.
“It was unbearable. I mean, I broke down immediately. I was hysterical. I didn’t know what to do, who to call, and my first thought was the kids,” she explained.

Katcheech leaves behind three children, Damen, Taelyn, and Keiran, who are now being cared for by Tremblay and her family.
“It’s hard for them to even process. It’s hard for them to believe that somebody could even do that to their mom. My older son, Damen, he said, like this was his worst fear, was losing his mom,” said Tremblay.
Family coming together to take care of the three kids, as well as putting on a fundraiser for the celebration of Katcheech’s life. Memorials like letters and candles placed at the front door, Tremblay is grateful that the community remembers a loving mother.

“It makes me feel good. It makes me. I’m happy to know that there are people who have made the effort to come pay their respects and show their love for Teresa. It means a lot.”
Police are not currently sharing the information about her death as homicide detectives continue to investigate the cause.
