Woman fatally struck by cargo van in central Edmonton is city’s 1st fatal collision of 2026

Police say a pedestrian fatally struck by a cargo van in central Edmonton on Wednesday is the city’s first deadly collision victim of the year.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) says a 78-year-old woman was crossing near 115 Street and 107 Avenue around 10:15 a.m. when she was hit.

Authorities believe the woman was crossing on a part of the road “where crossing is prohibited.”

She was taken to hospital, where she died of her injuries.

The cargo van, which was travelling west on 107 Avenue, was driven by a 76-year-old man. He was not injured.

The EPS major collision investigations section in investigating.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this collision.
