Edmonton welcomes submissions for Chinatown vibrancy fund

The City of Edmonton is reminding community groups and organizations that $480,000 has been put aside for 2026 to revitalize Chinatown.
The funding was announced this time last year when the city extended its Chinatown Vibrancy Fund for 2025 and 2026.
The city has not announced an extension for next year or beyond.
The funding is for festivals, cultural events and other projects in the historic Edmonton neighbourhood that has been affected by social disorder and crime in recent years.
The goal is to revitalize the area and attract more visitors.
The vibrancy fund was started in 2024, and it led to the creation of 28 projects like Chinatown Chow Down, Lunar New Year, Edmonton Dragon Festival and the Four Guardians of Chinatown mural series

“In 2025, Edmonton’s Chinatown welcomed more than 16,000 visitors from across the city to share and celebrate the history, food and culture of this dynamic neighbourhood,” said Mayor Andrew Knack. “I’m proud to support this community in creating even more opportunities for Edmontonians to experience this unique area.”

Applicants can apply here. The city says project proposals should focus on how they would development the area economically, celebrate Chinatown, and improve safety.
Applications will close Feb. 28.
