Attempted kidnapping at Banff Christmas Market under investigation

An investigation is underway after a Calgary family faced an attempted kidnapping in Banff in early December, police say.

Investigators say a family of four was leaving the Banff Christmas Market near 327 Railway Avenue at around 5 p.m. on Dec. 13.

It was as they were approaching their car that several masked individuals accosted them and tried to force a 44-year-old man into a vehicle.

Officers say it was somehow unsuccessful, and the suspects fled the scene in a dark sedan and a truck.

When the family returned to Calgary, the victim reported the incident to police.

Police ask anyone who witnessed this incident or has any relevant information, pictures, or video about it to call them at 403-266-1234 or Banff RCMP at 403-763-6600. Tips can be left anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play stores.
