Edmonton music teacher, 68, accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting 9-year-old student

An Edmonton music teacher is accused of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old multiple times while she was taking lessons at the man’s home.

The Edmonton Police Service says the 68-year-old man allegedly assaulted the girl “on several occasions” between 2024 and 2025.

On Tuesday, Peter Burandt was arrested and charged with sexual assault and sexual interference. He is forbidden to have any contact with any person under the age of 16.

Because the accused has been a piano and violin teacher for two decades, investigators believe there could be other victims.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
