Edmonton’s Catholic Schools looking to rebuild playground damaged by arson

By CityNews Staff

Edmonton’s Catholic Schools says they are planning to rebuild the playground that was set on fire at St. Pius X Catholic Elementary School last weekend.

On July 12, Edmonton police responded to the school, after officers noticed smoke while on patrol nearby.

The incident is being investigated as arson, and the playground was severely damaged.

Edmonton Catholic Schools says it has been working with an insurance provider to assess the damage.

“We know how much this playground means to the students, families, and the surrounding community. We’re working hard behind the scenes to move things forward quickly and are looking ahead to rebuilding a new space for children to play, grow, and connect,” shared Chief Superintendent Lynnette Anderson.

Edmonton Catholic Schools says they are also trying to expedite cleanup efforts prior to the start of the coming school year, which will also allow them to begin rebuild the playground.
