By CityNews Staff

Alberta RCMP say 12 people are in custody and are facing charges for allegedly being involved in human trafficking in the Stony Plain area.

“Human trafficking is a heinous crime that predominantly impacts young women and girls who are compelled or forced to engage in for-profit sex acts. The arrests made during this operation highlight the fact that there a those who would seek to exploit and benefit from trafficked individuals and the Parkland RCMP is committed to investigating those who would harm our most vulnerable citizens,” said Inspector Kevin McGillivray, the Detachment Commander of the Parkland RCMP.

Mounties say that all 12 are facing charges with obtaining sexual services for consideration.

At this time, RCMP has not provided more information, noting that the individuals can’t be named as the charges are still not sworn before the court.
