Edmonton soccer coach charged with sexual assault

By CityNews Staff

Edmonton police say a 30-year-old soccer coach has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old.

EPS says in June, officers were informed of a relationship between a teen and their adult soccer coach, which had been going on since late last year.

Following an investigation, police took 30-year-old Vanessa Young into custody on June 25.

Young has since been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation, luring a child under 18, and luring a child under 16.

Police note that the teen is receiving support from the Zebra Child & Youth Advocacy Centre.

EPS believes there may be similar incidents, and if anyone believes they might have been victimized, they are asked to contact investigators at 780-423-4567.
