    UP NEXT:

250 a week, over 1500 total crocheted chickens have made their way to the homes of Oilers fans, including the Prime Minister. James Dunn takes a look at her process and what makes them relaxing.

Crocheting was never meant to be a second job for Ashley Sinclair. Usually, she’s busy getting things ready for the local elections in Strathcona County.

She got hooked after being pregnant with her son as a way to fight morning sickness.

“It’s like 3D Printing but with yarn,” she said.

Last year, Sinclair started making little chickens dressed in Oilers blue and orange. But this year, things went to a new level.

97 gram Oilers-themed chickens have exploded online. A bigger 126 gram one was available but now sold out — that’s 97 plus 29 (McDavid + Draisaitl’s numbers).

About 250 are sold every week, and more than 1,500 total in just 44 days.

“What wormhole have I fallen through in the space-time continuum to get here!?” said Sinclair.

Although they take about 40 minutes to make, Sinclair has the help of seven more people to keep up with the demand. Some very important people have placed orders.

Prime Minister Mark Carney was seen holding one with Alberta Senator Kris Wells. Sinclair says Carney has two, one for his home, another at his office.

Because you can squish and play with them, they’ve become emotional support stuffies for Oilers fans. After Game 4, some may have needed it.

“I’m just so excited to see what’s going to happen next. I’m happy to be here and happy to be watching the Oilers play hockey in June. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next,” said Sinclair

It’s still a labour of love for Sinclair, and she still has lots of labour to give, with at least two games left in the Stanley Cup final.

All this yarn you see, orange, blue, and white, will be used to fulfill orders.

And some of your money will go to the Ben Stelter Foundation if you add on these chicken-themed stickers.

But she won’t be quitting her day job or paying off her house anytime soon.

“That’s a lot of chickens, but I am happy to keep making chickens as long as they resonate with fans.”
