The Edmonton Oilers season will continue to Game 6 on Thursday evening after a dominant performance in Game 5.
The Edmonton Oilers are in do-or-die territory heading into Game 5, trailing the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 in the first round series, and were looking to bounce back from three straight losses after winning the series opener on April 20, and they were able to bounce back thanks to Leon Draisaitl who had two goals and from Evan Bouchard who picked up three assists.
Captain Connor McDavid was listed as a game-time decision prior to the game, but took part in warmups, started the game, and ended up with two assists while seeing just over 24 minutes of ice time.
Connor Ingram has been confirmed to be back between the pipes after the Oilers went with Tristan Jarry in net for Game 4.
The Oilers scored three quick goals in the third period after Vasily Podkolzin opened the scoring on Edmonton’s first shot of the game, roofing a shot over Lukas Dostal’s shoulder into the top of the net after getting a cross ice pass from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The assist would make Nugent-Hopkins’ 60th career playoff assist.
Following a turnover in the Ducks’ end, Nugent-Hopkins fired a shot which got tipped in front of the net by Zach Hyman, past Dostal to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead.
Draisaitl would make it 3-0 for the Oilers redirecting a blueline shot-pass from Bouchard. The goal would come a minute and a half after Hyman’s goal.

This would mark the end of the night for Dostal who ended up giving up three goals on eight shots.
Nearing the halfway point of the second period, Alex Killorn would get the Ducks’ on the board, scoring his third goal of the series.
Not long after the Ducks’ goal, Ian Moore would take a hooking penalty. With the man advantage, Draisaitl would score a one-timer goal from McDavid for his second goal of the game, making it 4-1 for the Oilers.
The third period would be scoreless and the Oilers would take a 4-1 win.
Ingram would make 29 saves on 30 shots picking up the win for the Oilers, while Ville Husso would make 10 saves of 11 shots after replacing Dostal in the first.
Game 6 will be back in Anaheim at 8 p.m. Mountain Time on Thursday April 30.
