Oilers’ Draisaitl named finalist for Hart Trophy

Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl has the chance to win the Hart — again.

Draisaitl was announced as a finalist for the Hart Trophy on Thursday morning. Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and Tampa Bay Lightning leading scorer Nikita Kucherov were also named finalists.

Draisaitl is a finalist for the Hart for the second time in his career after he won the award in 2020. He won the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy as the NHL’s leading goal scorer with 52 this season, the fourth time he scored at least 50 times in a season.

Kucherov is a finalist for the Hart for the third time in his career, and he won it in 2019. He led the NHL in scoring this season with 122 points to win his second straight Art Ross Trophy and third overall.

Meanwhile Hellebuyck has a chance to join an exclusive club. Only eight goaltenders have ever won the trophy awarded annually “to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team.” The last one to win was Carey Price in 2015.

Hellebuyck followed up last year’s Vezina Trophy-winning season with an even better performance in 2024-25. He became just the fifth goalie to win 47 times as the Jets claimed the Presidents’ Trophy, and he led the NHL with eight shutouts while posting a .925 save percentage.

The Hart Trophy is voted on by members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.
