New blood donation centre opening in south Edmonton
It will soon be a lot easier to donate blood in Edmonton.
Canadian Blood Services is set to open a new location at 4211 – 106 Street NW (Whitemud Crossing).

The convenient location is good news for Aaron Gatreau, as he’s donated 187 times and counting. For him, it’s a way to give back, after receiving a life-saving blood transfusion following a skydiving accident in 2003, and he’s hoping it will bring more people.

“New things, new locations, new signs tend to draw new people. They want to come see what the fuss is about. I think this could end up attracting a few more donors as a result. If we get a couple more people signed up, that’s a few more lives saved,” Gatreau explained.
The new location will officially open Monday, and unlike the soon-to-close university location, the new site boasts free and ample parking.
“We have the Whitemud there, we have Gateway Boulevard, and also Calgary Trail, so it’s just making it more convenient for donors to come in. Not only can they go have something to eat, go shopping, but they can stop here as well,” said Jasmine Vallarta, with Canadian Blood Services.
On top of the new location, there will be mobile clinics throughout the city and at the university. Appointments can be booked on the Canadian Blood Services website.
